Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom has concluded a Hastings police officer was legally justified in fatally shooting a stabbing suspect October 1st. Investigators say 23-year-old Keagan Johnson-Lloyd assaulted a fellow resident at a group home with a kitchen knife and then left the facility. Police say several hours later they encountered Johnson-Lloyd outside a church and he ran toward an officer with what was believed to be a knife in his hand. The officer fired three shots, killing Johnson-Lloyd. He reportedly had struggled with mental illness from an early age.
