The Minnesota Legislature has elected four new members to the University of Minnesota Board of Regents. Mary Davenport, former interim president of Rochester Community and Technical College, and Kao Ly Her, C-E-O of the Hmong Elders Center, were chosen for two at-large seats with six-year terms. Current Board of Regents members Dean Johnson from Willmar and Peggy Lucas from Minneapolis were also nominated but did not receive enough votes. For two other open seats on the Board of Regents, lawmakers elected former U-S Magistrate Judge Janie Mayeron over incumbent Abdul Omari, and Mike Kenyanya from U-M-D was elected as the new student regent.
