This is day eight of Officer Jeronimo Yanez’ manslaughter trial. On Wednesday police procedure expert Jeff Noble testified that Yanez’ use of deadly force was “unreasonable and excessive.” The defense spent more than an hour calling Noble’s credibility into question. Key points of contention in the trial remain: did Yanez see Castile’s gun before he shot and killed Castile; what was Castile reaching for in the moments before he was shot—his seat belt, his wallet or his gun; did Castile’s marijuana use impair his judgment the night he was killed and was Yanez justified in using deadly force. These are among the questions the jurors will have to consider as the trial continues.
