Testimony continues this morning from an off-duty Minneapolis firefighter who was a bystander at George Floyd’s death. Genevieve Hansen took cell phone video of the incident and pleaded with officers to take Floyd’s pulse before she called 9-1-1. Hansen was emotional Tuesday when the state asked how she felt about not being able to help Floyd, saying she felt “totally distressed” and “frustrated.”The defense asked Hanson, who was eventually among the crowd of bystanders yelling at police, “would you describe other people’s demeanors as upset or angry?” Hansen responded, “I don’t know if you’ve seen anybody be killed, but it’s upsetting.” Not long after that, Judge Pete Cahill excused jurors and gave Hansen a stern warning not to “argue with the court, do not argue with counsel, answer the questions, do not volunteer information that is not requested.” Hansen is due back up on the stand first thing today for continued cross-examination by the defense. On Tuesday, several witnesses to George Floyd’s death testified about what they saw, including the teenage girl who recorded the bystander video of the incident that went viral. She testified that she’s stayed up nights “apologizing and apologizing to George Floyd for not doing more and not physically interacting and not saving his life.”
