Saying the state must lead by example, Governor Mark Dayton announced today (Thurs) an independent audit of state government’s human rights, affirmative action and procurement practices. Nekima Levy Pounds with the Minneapolis N-Double-A-C-P calls it a bold move. She says, “Minnesota has been seen as one of the worst places for African Americans in the country, and that’s simply unacceptable and untolerable. It’s time for us to take action as a state.” Officials expect the audit will take three to four months.
