Dayton appeals for calm after Dallas police killings, north Mpls child shootings

July 8, 2016 By Bill Werner

Gov. Mark Dayton

Governor Mark Dayton at the Capitol this afternoon said, “I make an appeal to everyone in Minnesota for calm… and nonviolence, and we’ll get through this terrible time here in Minnesota.”  Dayton called police officer killings in Dallas a “horrible tragedy” and also points to today’s shootings in north Minneapolis involving innocent children.

Police are investigating after two children were shot in north Minneapolis just before noon Friday and one of them, a two-year-old, died later at the hospital. Authorities say a 15-month-old child suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Investigators say there was “gunfire between individuals known to each other.”
