Governor Mark Dayton says he applauds Republican House Speaker Kurt Daudt’s statement that some type of gun regulation bill could still move forward in the Minnesota House this session. The governor says, “These issues really must have public floor debates, so that everybody can see where people [lawmakers] are — roll-call votes.” Dayton says he takes Speaker Daudt at his word, welcomes the change on his part, and hopes both the House and Senate see it through.
Daudt said Wednesday, “There are ongoing conversations kind of behind-the-scenes between members who are trying to work to find consensus on solutions that will really help reduce putting guns in the hands of potentially dangerous criminals.” He said some of those discussions are about requiring more background checks.
