Governor Mark Dayton has approved 5.4 million dollars in state aid to repair storm-damaged infrastructure in ten Minnesota counties: Aitkin, Benton, Carlton, Crow Wing, Kanabec, Meeker, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Pine, and Traverse. Those counties had significant damage to public property from severe thunderstorms, flooding, and high winds from July 9th through the 11th, but damage was not enough for a federal disaster declaration. The state will pick up 75 percent of eligible costs and local governments must pay the rest. Meanwhile, state assessors are in Saint Louis County today after surveying damage to public infrastructure yesterday in Lake County. It’s the result of a strong thunderstorm that tore through the Arrowhead on July 21st, when two campers were killed by falling trees. Damage assessments are tomorrow at the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa.
