Governor Mark Dayton is blasting Republicans who plan to stop making payments on the new Senate Office Building because Dayton vetoed funding for the legislature. Democrats warn the state’s credit rating could suffer and the governor says, “To try to make us look bad in front of the rating agencies as some way of getting back at me is just really not responsible.”
House Speaker Kurt Daudt says lawmakers had to tap limited reserve funds because Dayton cut off funding for the House and Senate, and the governor “needs to understand that his decisions do have consequences.” Dayton’s veto was prompted by his ongoing dispute with Republicans over tax cuts.
