Governor Mark Dayton has in his bonding request to the legislature three-and-a-half million dollars for a fisheries management station on Lake Mille Lacs, which is struggling with a declining walleye population. Dayton says the state needs the fishery to be pro-active in restoring the walleye population and sustaining it in the years ahead. He says he hopes the legislature will support it. Dayton wanted a special session last summer to address walleye population problems on Mille Lacs but lawmakers wouldn’t agree to it. The legislature goes back into regular session March 8th.
