Governor Mark Dayton says he’s looking very seriously at a request from sex abuse survivors and their attorney that the state launch a grand jury investigation into priest sex abuse cover-ups involving Catholic dioceses in Minnesota. “It’s the first time anybody’s made that request to me,” Dayton says. “It’s only…, as far as we can tell, the second or third time in the history of the state, so we’re looking at the statute. We’re trying to understand what my authority is and is not.”
Leaders of the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis say “there has been disclosure… at every stage of the bankruptcy process” and they’re disappointed it’s being criticized as a means of concealing the truth.
