Governor Mark Dayton and House Speaker Kurt Daudt visit the Minnesota Security Hospital in St. Peter today (1:00 pm).
The facility houses patients with serious mental illness and has been under scrutiny after numerous injury reports and safety violations involving staff and patients. State Human Services officials say the security hospital needs a major overhaul and more staff.
Money for the changes was a casualty of the meltdown at the end of the legislative session, but it’s high on the governor’s list for a planned special session.
