It’s expected Governor Mark Dayton will say today (Mon) his intentions for a controversial health care “reinsurance” bill the legislature passed late last week. The governor said about two weeks ago that if taxpayers are to provide 300 million dollars a year in an attempt to hold down health insurance premiums, “The people of Minnesota have a right to know, is this gonna mean that people who are now providing this coverage are gonna continue to do so in 2018? And are the rates they’re gonna charge gonna be ones that are reduced to zero, or close to zero — the increases?”
Republican leaders say “reinsurance” is necessary to stabilize the health insurance market in Minnesota so more plans don’t pull out, leaving people particularly in rural areas with few options for medical coverage.
