Governor Dayton is expected to announce his decision tomorrow(thurs) on whether he will approve the final environmental review for the proposed PolyMet copper-nickel mine near Hoyt Lakes. Supporters of PolyMet say the project would create hundreds of jobs — up to 360 direct employees, and another 600 spin-off jobs. The project has been controversial though, opponents are concerned about the potential impact the mine could have on the groundwater supply in the region. The proposed mine would be near Babbit, and the proposed processing plant would be near Hoyt Lakes.
