Governor Mark Dayton and top Republicans remain at odds over the process for reaching agreement on the state budget after Dayton met privately with legislative leaders Tuesday. House Speaker, Republican Kurt Daudt, says he thinks the governor is trying to gain leverage by delaying agreement on the budget until the end of the legislative session, which is under one month away. Daudt says Dayton changed his position and now insists on waiting until the House and Senate resolve their differences on budget bills before he gets involved in negotiations. Dayton responds the two chambers need to agree on the legislature’s position — and adds he will not negotiate with two different House and Senate budget bills, neither of which have been vetted for accuracy by the state Department of Management and Budget.
