Governor Mark Dayton and legislative leaders are meeting, trying to reach common ground on a bonding bill for state construction projects that failed in the final seconds of the legislative session. House Speaker, Republican Kurt Daudt says, “The governor obviously has made a list of demands that I think most people see as unreasonable, so we’ll see how content he is on giving up those demands.” Lieutenant Governor Tina Smith said going into the meeting that because the speaker just called the governor unreasonable, “it’s a little hard to be optimistic.” Big sticking points appear to be Southwest Light Rail in the Twin Cities, the dollar amount of the bonding bill, and how much of it should go to road and bridge projects.
