It’s expected Governor Mark Dayton will make a compromise offer to Republicans today to try to break the deadlock at the State Capitol over road and bridge funding. House Speaker Kurt Daudt say Dayton’s offer needs to *not* include a gas tax increase to be considered serious. Deputy Democratic Leader Melissa Hortman from Brooklyn Park says she thinks Republicans don’t want a transportation bill. Hortman says, “We certainly could reach a deal on a bonding bill that’s in the middle. We could do a responsible transportation bill. But then they lose the campaign issue of, Republicans stopped a gas tax [increase].” Republicans say both sides need to agree on a transportation package before work proceeds on a bonding bill for state public works projects.
