Governor Mark Dayton is renewing his push for the federal government *not* to reduce funding for the MinnesotaCare health insurance program. Federal officials approved Minnesota’s request to use so-called “reinsurance” money to hold down increases in health insurance premiums, but said there would also be a corresponding 369-million-dollar cut to MinnesotaCare funding. In a letter to top federal officials, Dayton says he previously received assurances that MinnesotaCare funding “would be unharmed.” The program provides insurance to about 100 thousand Minnesotans who don’t qualify for Medicaid.
