Dayton meeting with legislative leaders but special session unlikely

January 8, 2016 By Bill Werner

State Rep. Jim Knoblach (R-St. Cloud)

Governor Mark Dayton meets with top Republican and Democratic lawmakers this morning as he continues pushing for a special legislative session — but it’s not likely.  Republicans at a working group meeting Thursday said complying with federal I-D requirements for drivers licenses can wait until the regular session in March. And there was little progress at a different meeting trying to address income and job disparities affecting Minnesotans of color.  Saint Cloud Republican Representative Jim Knoblach said it’s a “very important topic, and if there isn’t a special session, having another meeting will just help lay the groundwork for what we can do in the regular session.”  Democrats say Republicans are offering excuses to avoid action.
