Governor Mark Dayton says he does not support a plan moving forward in the Minnesota House for the state to purchase the now-closed privately-run prison in Appleton, the Prairie Correctional Facility. The governor says, “I’m not gonna agree to something that would have major capital and operating costs, when we don’t need it right now.” Dayton is however asking the legislature for eight million dollars to pay for 335 additional prison beds. The Appleton prison purchase would cost over a hundred million dollars, but Prinsburg Republican Tim Miller says the plan has been well vetted.
