Governor Mark Dayton has ordered the Minnesota National Guard to assist with firefighting efforts in Beltrami County, where a 500-acre wildfire has been burning since Wednesday. It’s the result of a DNR prescribed burn that was intended to manage brushlands in northwest Minnesota. The National Guard will provide two water-dropping helicopters to battle the blaze. At this time the fire is limited to state lands and officials say no structures or private land are currently threatened. Fire danger is northwest Minnesota is rated “very high.”
