Governor Mark Dayton’s gave his sixth State of the State address last night (Wed) and some of the loudest applause came when he told lawmakers, “I will hold the House Republicans to their commitments the last couple of months to provide 26 weeks of extended unemployment benefits retroactively to those good men and women on the Iron Range.”
House Republicans want Democrats to also approve business tax cuts, and Speaker Kurt Daudt is now also bringing up Dayton’s opposition to the proposed Twin Metals copper-nickel-platinum mine near Babbitt and Ely.
Daudt says the project promotes much-needed jobs on the Iron Range and he’s disappointed the governor didn’t address it in his speech.
