Governor Mark Dayton and Republican leaders at the legislature are trying to move forward on a REAL ID bill that stalled Monday in the state Senate over whether undocumented immigrants should be able to get drivers licenses in Minnesota. House Speaker Kurt Daudt says the governor’s statements indicate Dayton would like that, but that it maybe isn’t a must-have. But Daudt adds that Dayton “did go to the Senate caucus last week and asked them to… not vote for the bill unless it included the drivers licenses, so I’m not sure how strongly he’s gonna make a stand here.” Dayton said last week he’s stated his “strong preference” and “whether we can achieve that or not in discussion with the legislative leaders, we’ll have to find out.”
