Dayton says ACA “no longer affordable” but no special session yet

October 12, 2016 By Bill Werner

Governor Mark Dayton admitted today that big rate hikes for health insurance are a problem, saying “the Affordable Care Act is no longer affordable.”  But Dayton added there are “a number of things that need to be done at the federal level and there are some things we can do at the state, but the magnitude of this problem, Minnesota is not alone in this, many other states have experienced significant increases.”

Minnesota Jobs Coalition President Kevin Magnuson says “after rushing to embrace Obamacare lock, stock and barrel, Mark Dayton is finally realizing what Minnesotans have known for years –Obamacare is a failure that led to fewer choices and higher costs for families.” Republican leaders recently proposed a special session to address the problem, but the governor said today he won’t discuss it until after the November election.
