Governor Mark Dayton says he told Republican leaders at their breakfast meeting Tuesday he will *not* sign a bill that requires he trim state agency budgets to free up 10 million dollars to continue fixing the state’s vehicle registration system. Dayton says, “I’ll veto that measure if it’s in the bill, I’ll veto the bill, and then we’ll be done.”
House Republican leaders say taxpayers shouldn’t have to pick up the cost of fixing a problem Dayton admitted is his responsibility. The governor responds, “I’m not gonna pay for it myself. I’m not gonna cannibalize other agencies who have no culpability whatsoever in this.”
Dayton says the Senate’s version of the bill is acceptable. The House and Senate must work out a compromise.
