Governor Mark Dayton is weighing treatment options after meeting with Mayo Clinic doctors earlier this week about his prostate cancer diagnosis. Dayton told reporters Friday morning, “I’ll decide probably over this weekend or shortly thereafter whether I’m gonna go the route of surgery or radiation, and I’ll certainly let people know when I’ve made that decision.” The governor says he got “as good news as you can get with that kind of diagnosis” — that his prostate cancer has not spread and is treatable and curable. He says whichever treatment he chooses would begin in “fairly short order” and he will still be able to perform his duties as governor.
