Governor Mark Dayton says he will *not* sign a transportation funding bill the Republican-controlled legislature plans to send him because it won’t allow Southwest Light Rail, Metro Council changes are “poorly thought out” and “they haven’t provided the 85 million dollars which I’ve said for weeks is the minimum necessary for Metro Transit… [to] continue just the same level of bus service in the metropolitan area.” House transportation point man, Hanska Republican Paul Torkelson, says he’s not surprised at the governor’s stance, but adds, “committing 85 million in resources to the Met Council would in my mind throw the bill out of balance pretty dramatically.” Torkelson says it would take money from roads and bridges. But he remains optimistic a compromise can be reached.
