Governor Mark Dayton signed a bill last night that provides extended unemployment benefits to out-of-work miners on the Iron Range, after Republicans and Democrats broke their nearly three-week deadlock at the State Capitol. The governor also signed a business tax cut bill that the House passed just before the Iron Range measure late Thursday. Republicans wanted the Iron Range measure and business tax cuts in the same bill, but relented after the Senate Thursday morning passed business tax cut legislation separately and sent it over to the House. Virginia Democrat Jason Metsa thanked his colleagues for passing the bill before the Easter break.
