Sen. Bill Ingebrigtsen (R-Alexandria)
“A malicious attack,” says Governor Mark Dayton’s spokesman about a Republican senator’s proposed resolution denouncing and condemning the governor for comments he made about the police killing of Philando Castile. The governor said he didn’t think the shooting would have happened if the passengers and driver had been white. Alexandria Senator Bill Ingebrigtsen says Dayton rushed to judgment and his statements were irresponsible and an affront to the integrity and professionalism of all peace officers in Minnesota. Dayton’s Deputy Chief of Staff Linden Zakula responds “in no way was the Governor questioning the outstanding professionalism of Minnesota’s law enforcement community,” which he has strongly supported as governor. Zakula goes on to say, “Of course, legislators are going to vote to ‘show their unwavering support for our local law enforcement officers,’ as would the Governor.”
