Governor Mark Dayton spotlighted continuing tension between police and the black community in a speech to the Democratic National Convention Thursday night, saying Hillary Clinton is “precisely the kind of leader this country needs right now.” Dayton says, “Baton Rouge, Louisiana…Dallas, Texas…and Falcon Heights, Minnesota should tell us that we need a wise, compassionate and strong leader for all Americans.” Dayton sparked a national controversy when he said the fatal police shooting of a black man in Falcon Heights probably would not have happened if the passengers and driver had been white.
Dayton in his DNC speech lauded Hillary Clinton, saying she shares Paul Wellstone’s belief that “we all do better, when we all do better. Hillary Clinton has dedicated her life to serving the needs of others,” says Dayton, but “Donald Trump has dedicated his life to serving himself.” Dayton says Trump “played his shareholders for suckers and ripped off hard-working, responsible Americans.”
