Governor Mark Dayton says he supports the principle that instead of caucuses Minnesota have a presidential primary, timed to give voters maximum influence over each party’s choice of a nominee. Dayton says the state has to have a system that allows every Minnesota voter to participate in the process that decides who the next president of the United States will be. The chairman of Minnesota’s Democratic Party wants to keep the current caucus format. The proposal to switch to a presidential primary was floated Wednesday by a Republican, Farmington Representative Paul Garofalo (guh-RAH-fuh-loe).
