Governor Mark Dayton is taking heat for saying racial bias factored into the police fatal shooting of a black man in Falcon Heights. Dayton said Thursday, “Would this have happened if… the driver and the passenger were white? I don’t think it would have.” State Representative Nick Zerwas, a Republican from Elk River, says Dayton’s comments contributed to a “toxic climate” that boiled over in Dallas later that day. The governor responded Friday afternoon, “I stand by what I said… based on the information I had. I don’t have any new information.”
