Dayton tells legislative leaders “I am not gonna call a special session”

April 17, 2018 By Bill Werner

A warning from Governor Mark Dayton to legislative leaders during breakfast today at the Governor’s Residence:  “I told them I’m not gonna call a special session. I’m not gonna call a special session. I am not gonna call a special session — not the day after [the regular session adjourns] and not the month after, and not… [up to the point when] I leave office.”

About five weeks remain until the legislature must finish its work by May 20th. Dayton and Republicans have major disagreements over lining up the state’s tax code with the new federal changes. Republicans allege the governor’s plan will increase taxes on Minnesotans at every income level. Dayton responds his plan will cut state income taxes for over two million Minnesotans.
