Gov. Mark Dayton
Today’s the day Governor Mark Dayton says he’ll let a tax cut bill die without his signature, unless Republicans agree to pass a bonding bill in a special session with projects and programs he wants. House Speaker Kurt Daudt says he told the governor, “You’re gonna get more good will with me by signing that bill [than] if you try to force my hand.” Dayton says if the tax cut bill dies for lack of his signature, “I don’t desire that outcome. I mean, there are things like the St. Paul [soccer] stadium which I strongly support which would be affected. There’s tax relief for middle-income families.” But Dayton says there are also other important projects and programs that were not funded, when the legislature failed to pass a bonding bill in the final minutes of the 2016 session.
