Dayton tours Madelia fire damage, promises help

February 5, 2016 By Bill Werner

madelia

Governor Mark Dayton in Madelia today (Fri) got a first-hand-look at the damage from this week’s fire that leveled several businesses along Main Street. While meeting with affected residents Dayton gave out his phone number, promising the state will do what it can to help the community recover.  The governor also said he would issue an executive order to help the owner of a burned-out salon, who said she can’t get permission from a state licensing board to move into temporary quarters.  Dayton said today is “really sort of a needs assessment, and of course everybody wants it all back tomorrow and the reality is it’s gonna take some time. You look at that kind of devastation, it’s just gonna take time to rebuild,” he said.  Officials say the fire early Wednesday started in a flower shop and spread quickly to neighboring businesses. Seven buildings were lost.
