Gov. Mark Dayton
Governor Mark Dayton let a tax cut bill die last night without his signature — a “pocket veto” — and the question now is whether he and Republicans will be able to re-negotiate not only that bill, but also a bonding and transportation package.
Dayton said he won’t call a special session to fix a major mistake in the tax bill unless Republicans agree to his list of bonding projects and other programs. House Speaker Kurt Daudt says the governor broke his word: “He [Dayton] said, I will not hold this bill hostage for leverage on other things, and now he’s doing exactly that,… and it’s gonna be very difficult for me to trust him if he can’t keep his own word.” Dayton said earlier, “This is my way of achieving some compromise that wasn’t available to me at the end of the session.”
He maintains the extra projects and programs he wants are important for Minnesota.
