Governor Mark Dayton signaled today (Fri) he’s open to using state bonding dollars to beef up funding for roads and bridges, but says “a variety of sources” are needed to put together a transportation package. Dayton says to do that, Senate Democrats and House Republicans must “put their bonding bills face up on the table.” Senate Democrats unveil their bonding bill Monday, but House Republicans are not saying when they will. Speaker Kurt Daudt says, “We’ve got a 900-million-dollar surplus. Let’s figure out what we’re gonna do with that first, before we worry about borrowing more money.” But Democrats and Republicans are also at odds over the state budget, with transportation and tax cuts a big part of the debate.
