Governor Mark Dayton is telling House Republicans he will not call a special session to pass a bonding bill the legislature couldn’t agree on, unless they revise transportation funding provisions in the bill. Dayton says there has to be a Metro Transit component: “There would not need to be state money… going into Metro Transit funding or… [the] Southwest Light Rail project, but it could not prohibit the Metropolitan Council from using its funds available,” says Dayton. House Speaker Kurt Daudt responds they need to have a conversation with the governor, but does say Southwest Light Rail is so controversial there are two pending lawsuits trying to stop it right now. The governor says before he’ll call a special session Republicans must also guarantee funding for a number of other projects, including a U-of-M Health Sciences building and upgrades at the state Security Hospital and Sex Offender Treatment Program in Saint Peter.
