Gov. Mark Dayton
Governor Mark Dayton this morning rolls out his supplemental budget proposal, detailing what he’d like the state’s 900-million-dollar budget surplus used for. Dayton will likely propose some expansion of pre-kindergarten, but probably not universal pre-K because even fellow Democrats say the state budget can’t afford it. And the governor said in his State of the State speech last week that he will again propose increasing the child care tax credit. But Dayton cautioned that permanent tax cuts some propose “would put our state’s budget once again on a fiscal precipice.” The governor also said last week his supplemental budget will expand access to broadband, which he called “vitally important, especially to our citizens and businesses who reside in Greater Minnesota.”
