A “disgrace,” says Duluth Democrat Erik Simonson about funding for broadband Internet in a bill moving forward in the Republican-controlled Minnesota House. Simonson said to his GOP colleagues, “Don’t tell me that we’re gonna take money out of… education… and put wireless service into school buses and tell me that that’s gonna be the answer for Greater Minnesota, ’cause it’s not.” Willmar Republican Dave Baker responded he’s pushing as hard as he can “to get as much money out there to match as many private dollars as possible,” along with the federal funds. Governor Mark Dayton has requested 100 million dollars for broadband expansion. Senate Democrats have 85 million in their bill.
