Democrats in the Minnesota House are raising red flags over a plan for the state to buy and renovate the now-closed privately-run prison in Appleton (Prairie Correctional Facility), but Republicans said “no” Thursday afternoon to an extra committee hearing. Brooklyn Center D-F-Ler Debra Hilstrom says the bill would allocate 124 million dollars with no plan on how to spend it: “Zero plan…. No one’s heard what you’d spend the money on, and no one has heard what it would cost to do that.” Prinsburg Republican Tim Miller responds, “This discussion on Appleton prison has been well vetted in previous years. We’ve had all those discussions and that’s led to the progression of where we’re at right now.”
