Deputy Sandberg
(Aitkin, MN) — Aitkin County Deputy Steven Sandberg is laid to rest today (FRI 11am). Sandberg was gunned down by a patient he was monitoring last Sunday at St. Cloud Hospital. Aitkin Mayor Gary Tibbitts says the community is pulling together and Sandberg’s family is grieving but doing as well as can be expected. He says it’s a very tough situation and there is still a lot of shock and numbness yet. During the cemetery service a bell will be rung 24 times, once for each year of Deputy Sandberg’s law enforcement experience. That will be followed by a fly-over, weather permitting, and last call will then go out for 60-year-old Deputy Sandberg.
