(Aitkin, MN) — A candlelight vigil was held last (Monday) night at the United Methodist Church in Aitkin in honor of slain deputy Steven Sandberg. That followed a law enforcement procession that took Sandberg’s body home to Aitkin. Sandberg was shot to death early Sunday morning at St. Cloud Hospital. Officials say 60-year-old investigator was monitoring the welfare of 50-year-old Danny Hammond who was a patient at the hospital when Hammond got control of Sandberg’s weapon and shot him. Sandberg’s funeral is planned for Friday and the arrangements are still being finalized.
