A 23-year-old man is dead in an officer-involved shooting in Lake Elmo overnight. Police responded to a call of a suicidal male just after midnight and found the man armed with a handgun. Officers talked with the man and attempted to de-escalate the situation, and at some point, used “less-than-lethal” ammunition. Later, a deputy fired at the man. Life-saving efforts were attempted at the scene, but the man died a short time later at the hospital. It’s not clear yet whether the incident was captured on body or squad dash cameras. The officer involved and the victim’s names have not yet been released.
