The man who allegedly killed Stillwater Prison Corrections Officer Joseph Gomm has been moved to the maximum-security area in neighboring Oak Park Heights as the investigation continues. 42-year-old Edward Muhammad Johnson is serving a 29-year term for stabbing his 22-year-old roommate to death in 2002. He likely would have been released from prison in 2022 and served the balance of his sentence on supervised release. The Star Tribune reports that while being prosecuted for that crime, Thompson assaulted a deputy at Hennepin County jail. Later in prison a fellow inmate stabbed Johnson in the eye, Johnson sued the state Corrections Department and won a six-figure settlement. But the family of the woman he killed filed a wrongful death lawsuit and was awarded most of that money.
