Minnesota D-F-L Party leaders decide at the State Central Committee meeting in Cambridge today (noon start) whether to endorse attorney general candidate Keith Ellison, who overwhelmingly won last Tuesday’s primary election but is also accused by an ex-girlfriend of domestic abuse. Ellison has repeatedly denied the allegations and said Friday, “Some people I’ve talked to says… we believe you, but there’s a bigger issue here, and… domestic violence is a social issue that can’t be ignored.” Ellison said Friday he won’t drop out of the race for attorney general because he did not do what he’s accused of.
On the campaign trail in north Minneapolis on Friday, Ellison had this message for women questioning their support for him: “Not only did I not do this, I will continue to be an advocate for safe homes for all people, especially women. I will continue to be a fierce opponent of domestic violence.”
