DFL petitions to keep Trump off ballot in Minnesota; GOP calls petition “frivolous”

September 9, 2016 By Scott Peterson

The Minnesota DFL has filed a petition asking the state Supreme Court to remove Donald Trump and Mike Pence form the Minnesota ballot.

State DFL Chair Ken Martin says “clear errors occurred in the Republican process of selecting alternative electors for getting…Trump on the Minnesota ballot.” The petition asserts that the Minnesota GOP did *not* elect alternate presidential electors at its state convention earlier this year. And after being notified by the Secretary of State’s office that they had failed to do this, the DFL says Republicans decided to appoint alternate electors in a closed-door meeting rather than electing them–a violation of state law.

Minnesota GOP chair Keith Downey calls the petition “frivolous, baseless, and politically corrupt.”
