DFL repeat endorsing convention in Mpls next weekend might mean little

June 13, 2018 By Bill Werner

This weekend’s repeat D-F-L district convention in Minneapolis to endorse another candidate for U-S House — because Keith Ellison ran for attorney general — might not make much difference. Former House Speaker Margaret Anderson Kelliher, one of the front runners, says, “From what I’m hearing from a lot of delegates that I’ve been calling and talking with, is that they would really rather see in this situation that things go to the primary” — meaning no endorsement of any candidate.  There are six Democrats running for Ellison’s seat, and it’s possible that some of them could run in the primary regardless of what happens at this weekend’s convention in Minneapolis.

The other Democratic candidates are Ilhan Omar, Patricia Torres Ray, Kim Ellison, Frank Nelson Drake and Jamal Abdi Abdulahi.
