Now that the holiday season is winding down, officials are asking Minnesotans to properly dispose of Christmas trees and other greens, so insects and diseases that hitchhike from other states aren’t spread around Minnesota. Mark Abrahamson with the state Agriculture Department advises, “Unless you know your tree came from Minnesota, dispose of it at the end of the holiday season so it’s not gonna be hanging around outside when we get into the warmer months.”
He suggests using a city or county organized pick-up or drop-off. If that’s not available, burn the greens but always follow local ordinances.
