Dispute at Wellstone Action, late senator’s sons removed from board

February 15, 2018 By Bill Werner

Wellstone Action, the non-profit formed to train candidates and volunteers in Paul Wellstone’s memory, has removed the late senator’s sons, David and Mark Wellstone, from that organization’s board of directors.  The Star Tribune reports the board in a statement said the dispute arose from a difference of opinion about the direction of the organization. The paper also quotes Wellstone Action co-founder Jeff Blodgett that the actions of “certain former and current board members” created “untenable tension” over the organization’s “ongoing emphasis on expanding inclusivity and equity.” The Wellstone sons’ attorney Sam Kaplan says the dispute started when the board refused to investigate basic financial questions raised by the board treasurer. Blodgett called it a “red herring.”
